If you’re a history buff, you need to check out the Auckland Museum. Formally known as the Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum, this is a museum that has a lot to offer in terms of New Zealand history, natural history, and war or military history.

The collections and exhibits for this museum started in 1852, so there is plenty to view and experience.

Kelly Tarlton’s Aquarium

A fun thing to do by yourself, on a date, or with the whole family is to visit a world-class museum.

You don’t want to miss Kelly Tarltons Aquarium, as it has over 30 live animal exhibits. During your visit, you’ll see the world’s biggest Antarctic penguin colony exhibit.

Auckland Botanic Gardens

This is a beautiful botanic garden with more than 10,000 plants and 64 hectares to explore.

You can choose between a guided or self-guided tour and this is a great place for people of all ages. Entry to the botanic gardens is free and leashed dogs are welcome.

Karekare Beach

This is a famous beach that you may recognize from films like The Piano, but you may also have heard of it due to its black sand.

While you will not want to swim here without a lifeguard present due to the strong tides and rips, this beach can be great to walk along or spend part of your day enjoying the sun.
