Spring Break Indoor Blues? Get over it with some fitness fun using the Xbox Kinect

For many of us Spring Break is here and that means traveling, fun with friends and just having a good ole’ time. Though for some the days are filled with indoor boredom. So today I challenge you to get up, get to moving and get to playing Xbox. That’s right, I said Xbox! Who would have every thought a video game system could create such a fitness master piece and bring couch potatoes alive to the floor?

I was once an indoor, boredom victim but no more.

The Xbox Kinect is simple to install to your existing or new Xbox console system. Though I do suggest an adult caring for this task, so that the unit is secure and does not plum-it to the ground like one of ours did (thank goodness for the 1 year manufacturer’s warranty). Once it is in place, even my 5-year-old can calibrate the unit by standing in front of it and waving his hand at his side.

Then it is off to fun, fun, workout fun without the kids and adults knowing what is even going on. On any given rainy day, the kids and I can take turns playing one of our many games (just a few on our shelves: Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked, Kinect Sports and even Zumba Fitness which oddly they really get down to). So far we have had a lot success being active as a family using the XBox Kinect and while it is not the only method of fitness we incorporate into our lives, it is definitely one of the most entertaining.
