Old Spice “Smellcome to Manhood” Review and Giveaway

According to the Old Spice Scent Responsibly Survey, the average age a guy starts using body spray is 13 years old. Que the surprise, “WHAT?” Seriously this is completely true. As a mom with three sons, I can tell you that for boys with older brothers this comes at an even younger age. My middle son at seven, yes seven, has already started a routine that leaves him smelling good for the ladies.

Did you just have a back-up moment just like I did? I bet you did or maybe you are already hearing the same little hints from your boys as well. Come on my boys are still my babies and the idea of them wanting to smell good for the ladies is crazy, wild, a no-no you didn’t moment. I am completely sighing in defeat because this is one battle I know they will win. After all as moms, we all want our sons to grown up clean cut and as beautiful inside and out as we know they can be.

So here comes Old Spice with a new line of body sprays for guys – men – boys. Old Spice Re-fresh Body Sprays with Re-fresh Technology are available at mass market retailers, drug and grocery stores in a variety of manly scents. Easy to find in your local Wal-Mart, Target, Walgreens, ect. Let’s name a few of the manly scents:

  • Wild Collection – Bearglove, Lionpride, Wolfthorn, Hawkridge and Foxcrest
  • Fresh Collection – Fiji, Denali and Zanzibar
  • Red Zone Collection – After Hours, Champion, Pure Sport and Swagger

Let’s chat more about the new additions to the Wild Collection lineup – Bearglove and Lionpride.

  • Bearglove – A scent as fierce as a grizzly bear who can repair military helicopters and also speak confidentially about important world affairs.
  • Lionpride – An invigorating scent that is sure to capture the attention of unruly crowds, beautiful ladies and nervous Zebras. (more)

Geez, one could get steamy just from those names and descriptions. Hard to handle that my oldest son is probably thinking the same thing. Hush – think it – don’t say it like ever! Help me now as I prepare to chase the girls {and/or boys in my oldest’s case} away from my super, sweet boys. Let’s have a good cry shall we?

Remember that really cool survey we chatted about above before I broke out in song concerning girly cooties??? Memory refresher: Old Spice Scent Responsibly Survey

To better understand the root of the overspraying issue among guys in the U.S., Old Spice enlisted leading youth market research firm YPulse to survey more than 2,000 guys and girls (ages 13-25), as well as 1,000 moms of teenage boys across the country. They really got in there and asked young girls what they thought about the way guys smelled. Is that weird at all? I can hear my daughters now. They could probably write an entire essay on this subject. Talking about how much is too much and what scents they like and those they despise. Yeap, my daughters are hard critics to stomach.

How To Scent Responsibly from Old Spice

Now the root of the survey discovered that overspraying is a real issue with younger boys/men:

  • 3 out of 4 young guys and 83 percent of young females admit overspraying is an issue.
  • 72 percent of moms think overspraying is an issue, but only 26 percent think their sons are guilty of the offense.
  • Nearly 70 percent of guys revealed they weren’t taught how to properly apply Body Spray.
  • 45 percent of young guys said they reapply Body Spray because they thought their scent was fading.
  • 90 percent of young guys and girls who have bothered by Body Spray have been bothered by it in school.

So as moms of potentially awesome men, it is our responsibility to teach Scent Responsibly from a young age. The other alternative is to lock them away for ever and ever, board the windows and doors and find a magical dragon to keep watch when we are away. I am all for that too! Though no matter what I do they will grow up and I can only provide the tools to do so. So let’s hope they scent like a smarty and not a caveman. With new Old Spice Re-fresh Body Sprays, “One Spray Lasts All Day,” which means no more annoying spray clouds or take your breath away moments.

Now that Old Spice has shocked my system with the fact that my boys are leaving the nest one day no matter if I like it or not, we will move on to what we {myself and DD} thought of Old Spice Body Sprays. I guess the best thing to say is we are undecided. Just like with anything: we all agree to disagree on which ones we think are grand and the ones we think are better left in the woods. I will go out on a limb and say that that morning spray of Old Spice lasts all day long. When DD comes home from school and sits down for dinner chat, I can still tell what he applied that morning.

The Old Spice “Smellcome to Manhood” kit was beyond cool. Everything from the case to the DVD said let’s start the move from boy to man. My son is very interested in becoming a Marine. Proud momma, I am! Anything to do with defending the innocent against evil is his thing. Of course most of his skills come from video games at this time and life lessons from myself. He will learn more as he ages and if his life leads him into battle, so be it.

Smellcome to Manhood

Both of us agree that our favorite Old Spice body spray scent is Swagger. It is just the perfect mix and not too heavy for my budding boy. I seriously think my husband might have confiscated the Bearglove as it is missing in action. Guess he need to feel a little bigger when dealing with momma bear these days. I took the pants a long time ago, so I will give him this.

The Forge hair putty is AWESOME! Yes, that is in big letters because it works on my sons hair. I have always hated putting girly smelling products in his hard because hey, while I like him to look pretty, I don’t want him to smell like coconut. Come on! He’s a male. Men should smell like men. Till the girls notice, then it is back to the dirt and grime they go.

Every man planning to go to war should have duck tape and ear buds. Right? GRRR…..

Old Spice “Smellcome to Manhood” kit reasons

Another bonus was The Art of Manliness book. This has found a permanent spot in our bathroom. Laughing are you? That is where the men tend to spend 30 minutes of uninterrupted quiet time. So they should spend it reading something other than mags with half {or fully – depending on age} naked ladies. No Sports Illustrated on my watch!
