Low self-esteem can be very dangerous. People who don’t think highly of themselves are going to do what they can to make everyone else’s life miserable. Not to mention the fact that they may turn to drugs which could end up destroying their life forever. This is only one of many reasons why it is important for you as the parent to work hard to make sure that your child has high self-esteem.

Building Self Esteem is a Never Ending Process

Of course, you cannot wrap up a gift of self-esteem and give it to your child for their birthday. It is something that needs to be worked on every day for the rest of their life. If you can get them started with that special gift of self-esteem when they are younger, they will grow up to be outstanding adults.

Gently Nudge Them in the Right Direction

The most important thing that you can do to your child is to not push them into anything. You may think that you know what is best for them. Maybe you do. However, if you force them into doing something your way, they are going to resent you and they still aren’t going to do things the way that you have asked. It makes more sense to gently push them in the right direction rather than to force them.

Love Them for Who They Are

Always make sure that your child knows that you love them. Even when they are teenagers, they need to know that you are supportive of their decisions that they make. Never belittle them due to mistakes that they have made. Instead, encourage them to do things differently.

High Self Esteem Comes From Home

When your child has low self-esteem, they are going to be under the impression that they don’t deserve a wonderful life. They will think that they don’t deserve to get good grades and even in some cases, drugs or suicide. Encourage your children to do things that are a little out of their league. After all, people who sit in their comfort zone probably don’t have a lot of self-esteem because they have never had to fight to achieve something. Once you have climbed that mountain, you are going to feel amazing about yourself. Don’t be afraid to encourage your children to take on the world. They will eventually thank you for it.
