HOW TO STAY HEALTHY WHILE TRAVELING

Get Plenty Of Rest.  One of the quickest ways for your body to get run down is to skip sleep.  Even though you are on the road, make sure you are getting a good nights rest.  If you have trouble falling asleep in strange places, make sure to take along your own pillow or a sound machine (or downloaded mp3’s) to help you drift off to slumber.  A small dose of melatonin is another way to help you catch some z’s.

Increase Your Vitamin C Intake.  A week before traveling increase your Vitamin C intake.  If you don’t typically take supplements, pick up some quality vitamin c tablets to take daily.  At the very least make sure to load up on oranges and good leafy green vegetables that contain high amounts of Vitamin C for immune health.

Stay Hydrated.  Nobody likes using the bathroom in those tiny little closets on airplanes, but skipping your water intake is even more dangerous than your fear of those confined spaces.  Make sure to drink plenty of water while on the road or flying.  Skip the high sugar content of soft drinks, or the dehydrating effects of alcohol.  If you must have something other than water, stick with 100% juice instead.

Pack The Cleaning Supplies. Okay, so you don’t have to carry along a box of all of your cleaning supplies, but you can pack with sanitation in mind. Put a bottle of hand sanitizer in your bag for the flight (make sure to put in with your liquids for carry on). Check out small packages of antibacterial wipes as well to use on seats, handles and tray tables as desired. If you are traveling on the road, add a can of disinfectant spray to your bags for those quick sprays of hotel rooms in between maid service visits. Hand washing and avoiding hand to mouth/face contact are the most important safety method.

Skip Fast Food. What we put into our bodies contributes a lot toward our overall health.  While fast food is much easier when traveling than finding a place with fresh foods, it isn’t worth it in the long run.  If you can’t find a good quality restaurant, check for a local grocery store and eat fresh fruits, vegetables and lean meats.  Avoid the greasy fried foods as much as possible while traveling.

It doesn’t take much more than a little common since to understand how to stay healthy while traveling.  Apply the same rules you would at home to your time on the road.  Take care of your body, be safe in your practices and most of all enjoy yourself and your time with your family.
