When it comes to home decorating, some areas of the house get a lot of the attention. I think that most people tend to focus on the living areas: living room, dining room, bedroom, kitchen. The places that you spend the greatest deal of your time. The places that your guests would be most likely to spend their time. One room that seems to be at the bottom of people’s to-do list is the bathroom. This makes me sad. Poor bathrooms. They are like the middle children of the family. I don’t know about you, but I have a deep appreciation for the bathroom. It is my blessed escape. Actually, I bet that a lot of mothers feel the same way. It is where I go to relax and wind down with a book. Why not make it a place that is just as aesthetically pleasing as the rest of your home?
Do you want to know my favorite thing about bathroom decoration? The bathroom vanity sink. No, seriously! A nice bathroom vanity can be more than just a place to wash up. It can be a statement piece. It is the perfect blend of fashion and functionality. Those who have been lucky to find unique bathroom vanities make me jealous. And, oh, those double vanities are just the best! His and hers bathroom? Ummm…yes, please!
When choosing the perfect bathroom vanity, I like to focus on the three S’s: size, storage, and style.
Typically, the size of the bathroom itself will dictate the size of the vanity that you choose. Typically, powder rooms (the smallest of them all) will have small vanities that sport only the most basic of features – a sink and a little countertop space. These vanities typically don’t need any storage space.
Guest bathrooms will be a little larger and will also require some storage space for the essentials (shampoo, soaps, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc). If your children will be using this bathroom, you may want to invest in a double sink to avoid early morning arguments over who gets to brush their teeth first).
Master bathrooms will also require a great deal of storage for all of the things you need on a daily basis. And, as you can see above, I am a huge fan of double vanities.
When it comes to style, it should be something that reflects your personality. You can have it match the rest of your home décor or you can diverge for it completely. It can be the perfect opportunity to experiment a little bit! And you experimenting doesn’t even have to be expensive. With a little searching you can find some great vanities for sale. You might come across one that just screams “pick me!” as soon as you see it. Good luck and happy decorating.
