Books are a part of our lives. We grew up reading and we have fond memories of books we loved back then. We might have a collection of favorites. You have to think about what kind of shelves you want to put these books on, and what better way to do it than to add a library in a study or living room. While you’re at it, add a library ladder. That will help you get those tricky books on the higher shelves, especially when you get the big bookshelves.
#6 Judy Moody
Okay, this is a newer generational book, but it has a lot of character. With Judy Moody, you get a moody girl who doesn’t know how to use all of her emotions yet, like all children, and has to figure out how to become less moody. This is a classic book for any shelf and should be placed on yours for your children to read as they get older.
#5 Goodnight Moon
This is such a good book. I have a 2-year-old, and I read this to her every night. She never gets bored of it, and she goes to sleep soon after reading it. This is a classic tale that tells children that it’s okay to tell everything goodnight and that everything has to go to sleep, including them. Definitely a great bookshelf placement that keeps the kids entertained and gets them to sleep.
#4 Little Bear
I can still remember my mom reading me little bear until I was old enough to read it myself. There were so many books that I couldn’t keep up, but I read them all the time. This series helps kids realize that it’s okay to be a protector, that you don’t have to follow the crowd, and that they can be kind to people. That’s the kind of books that I think everybody should be reading. It’s okay to be a better person and worry about helping other people and not just yourself for a change.
#3 Disney Books
Okay, so to catalog all of the Disney books would be insane, so like everything else, it’s considered a series. You have so many things to choose from, including Dumbo, Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, Snow White, and so many more. If I left your favorite out, I’m sorry, add it to your personal library. These books show kids that it’s okay to dream, and be a princess, that it’s okay if you’re not smart enough, pretty enough, or handsome enough, you can win too. With a message like that, there’s no way that you can’t put it on your shelves.
#2 Dr. Seuss
The books have a life of their own. The worlds that he created have sent children into wonderful imaginations. Whether younger or older children, they all like the soothing rhymes of Dr. Seuss. There are classics like The Lorax, The Cat in the Hat, and The Grinch, but he has other lesser-known works. I believe that the number two spot goes to Dr. Seuss because he is gifted, and I read them, my kids have read them, and they never get tiresome or bored. There have been tons of movies and television series about these Dr. Seuss books, and the fun begins when you open the first page.
#1 Goosebumps
What is there left to say about this series? R.L. Stine is a genius. He has masterfully crafted fantasy and horror together in most of his books and series. People still buy his books in bulk. He is a mastermind when it comes to writing children’s books. Not only has the book community commended him, but he has filmed most of his books. He has many movies, including the movie titled “Goosebumps,” “The Haunting Hour,” and so much more. Not to mention the fact that the books that didn’t get a movie took a side role in the now highly-watched television show titled “Goosebumps.” He is a legend, and we will never forget him, so if you have no room on your bookshelves for his books, be sure to pick up all of the Goosebumps books and knock a few others off your shelf. This is a series that will last longer than a generation. It will last past your lifetime and beyond. Go get some Goosebumps, and reread your favorite childhood series to your kids or even yourself. And to borrow his line, “Beware, you’re in for a scare.”
