Review: LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Experience

LEGOLAND Discovery Center is a fun-filled Lego park in the heart of Kansas City. LEGO fans of all ages can find a place to get go, laugh and build their dream structures. This attraction is a great way to spend the day and not a bad idea for a travel stop for out of town visitors and locals alike. It is one of the best things to do in Kansas City!

Review: LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Experience

We explored LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City, named the “ultimate indoor LEGO playground” geared for kids ages 3-10 who are the biggest fans of LEGO! In fact, LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City is one of Kansas City’s best attractions for kids where one can reach out and touch the stars in the 4D cinema, build the fastest car in Build & Test, save the princess at Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, or schedule your wee one’s ultimate LEGO birthday party.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Get Your Tickets Online

Before you visit, check out kansascity.legolanddiscoverycenter.com to pre-purchase your tickets and skip the lines at the door. We found this to be very helpful when traveling with a group of impatient youth (aka – our tribe). Otherwise, you can  purchase tickets at the door for LEGOLAND Discovery Center and SEALIFE both in the same location. Warning though during peek times, this attraction can and will sell out of WALK-IN tickets. This was the case on the day we visited with LEGOLAND and had to go in a little later in the day.

SEALIFE Lego Structure Kansas City

Once we had our tickets, we took the elevator up to LEGOLAND (SEALIFE is on the first floor). Upon exiting, we entered the LEGO Ideas Studio and new for 2017, Dream It! Draw It! Build It! where the kids actively built their dreamed up LEGO build and then put the creation on display! Exciting right? Our travel family thought so.

The LEGO Ideas Studio is all about sparking creativity in the minds of young builders and putting that to work working on brand new, unique builds that can only be found at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City! With LEGOLAND Discovery Center’s Master Model Builder as your guide, anyone can become a brick engineer, architect or artist! Your dreams are within reach at this attraction.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Kingdom Quest Laser Ride

After the Dream It! Draw It! Build It! builds, our group moved on to take a ride on Kingdom Quest Laser Ride. This interactive shoot to win points ride is your ticket from the entrance to all the amazement that LEGOLAND has in store for your family. Even my granddaughter who is one was able to enjoy the fun. This adventure is for anyone who can stand and sit unassisted.

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Merlin's Apprentice

Once you exit Kingdom Quest Laser Ride, you are greeted with a fantastic view of Merlin’s Apprentice. This ride is for the older youth crowd as we got to pedal the enchanted carts in Merlin’s magical potions chamber to become his next wizarding apprentice while being lifted skyward. This was a uniquely fun experience as the kids laughed and giggled as their petaled as fast as possible to get the cart as high in the air as possible.

Merlin’s Apprentice is for children (and adults) a minimum of 36 inches tall to ride. Children between 36 inches and 48 inches must ride with an adult. This ride is handicap accessible as long as guests are able to be transferred into ride vehicle.

Since my sweet granddaughter was too young to play on Merlin’s Apprentice, I took her to the LEGO Friends area at Olivia’s House for a super fun party! She played in the block pools and watched a group of girls singing karaoke in the living room area till she realized it had been a little while since mom had been in eyesight. Needless to say, this was not a fun moment and we raced off to locate the rest of our group to appease the frown on her face.

After the older ones finished up riding Merlin’s Apprentice, we gathered together again and decided to be the odd-balls and head left to the Master Builder Academy for the kid’s vs grown-ups imagination build-off challenge. Our family went head to head in the ultimate creativity build-off in this center! This was a bit tougher for the adults as creations come straight from your imagination, no limits, no boundaries, no rules, just pure creativity!

LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City Miniland

Not surprising that the adults lost as it seems we lose a bit of imagination as we aged. It was fun to see the joy on their faces as they played and won against mom. Not to mention, all winners will be in the running to win a private build session with our Master Model Builder! Challenges only happen on a few days of the month and at set times, so be sure to checkout the challenge schedule when planning your visit.

The youngest were getting a little grumpy, so we split off into two groups. The older children went to play at Lego Racers: Build and Test area as well as the Earthquake Tables while my oldest daughter, granddaughter and myself headed to the LEGO cafe for a coffee and kid’s meal including a hot dog, Goldfish crackers and chocolate milk for the wee one. While we awaited the others to rejoin us, she was delighted to play in the DUPLO Village, a perfect playground for kid’s 2-5. There is a Quiet Zone right next door, excellent for napping and breastfeeding babes.

Our last stop and newest million dollar addition to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City, the Train Station Adventure. This area is a gigantic indoor playground for kids 2-12. With so many activities to choice from, we spent a good hour chatting with the kids played to their hearts content.

Inside this attraction, Elliot and Erica spent forever climbing, sliding, jumping and rolling around train obstacles inside the Train Station Adventure play zone! The older girls were excited to build their own LEGO trains on a 15 foot long build table together and then test it on the tracks through the city to the countryside. Deep in the Train Station Adventure, the kids each took turns in the Conductor’s chair which allowed them to ride through the virtual world of Kansas City and see how many famous landmarks!

MDefined Kona Ice Crown Center

After all the fun we had at LEGOLAND Discovery Center Kansas City, we took a mini break outside to experience some of the beauty of the Crown Center. Best of all there was a Kona Ice truck nearby which we had to stop at. I mean who doesn’t love a good snowcone?
