When Mr. E just turned two he had going to the potty down to an early art. For nearly a month I praised, bragged and adored how he decided one day on his on it was time to start using his big boy potty. Our family said it was probably because he had four younger siblings all doing the deed in the bathroom and he just wanted to fall in line with them. Then something drastically changed and he just stopped, literally overnight. We went right back to a previous time not so long ago when he was a babe and in dipes.
Nearly a year later and we are still struggling hard to get him potty trained. I am terrified of failure. We have under three months before pre-school begins and being potty trained is a requirement. What will I do if he is not ready, just hold him back a year? I don’t feel that is even an option.
Even more so worried to what will happen if I push him too hard. Will a demand to sit on the potty every 30 minutes around the clock eventually lead to issues with the natural way of things? With so much information on both sides of every argument available at my fingertips via the worldwide web, I am left with the ole’ go with the flow method of what worked for us in the past {though not we have been unsuccessful for weeks at this point}.
One of the things we introduced Elliot to in the last week was “What does a little monster take?”…”A Potty Break!” idea. Using the Monsters U Huggies Pull-Ups design, we were able to get on his attention with a character that he knows and loves. This is a new addition to the consistent routine of traveling to the potty. Though now I am armed with a way to may it fun. So far we have had at least one no. 1 in the big boy potty a day and a lot of laughs doing it. I look forward to continuing the potty break method as it seems to lighten the mood for both him and I which essentially lowers our stress level and will hopefully lead to success before the summer is complete.
What suggestions do you have to help ease into potty training?
Pull-Ups helps take the scare out of potty training by making it fun and easy with new Monsters U character training pants! You can help make potty training easier by staying consistent and using rituals like the potty break. Make it a game and ask your toddler, “What does a little monster take?”…“A Potty Break!”
