Over the years my life has become so fast-paced that we have come accustomed to the land of the cereal breakfast. Though seriously who wants to eat the same thing day after day when their are so many other on-the-go kid-friendly breakfast ideas available.
1. Yogurt – Can you say just add nuts? As simple as it sounds, stock up on the families favorite fruit yogurt and toss in pre-chopped pecan or almonds. This is a great idea for busy moms to get some of the daily calcium they need as well.
2. Fruit & Nut Bars – While these are my favorite when needing to have breakfast while traveling make sure you select a brand like KIND which is also known for their health benefits too. Otherwise you will end up hungry in a short amount of time and will have consumed too many needless calories.
3. Oatmeal Your Way – Start with Quaker Quick Oats which take one minute after boil to be ready to cool and eat. We stock up on brown sugar, honey, almonds, raisins and dried cranberries for this particular breakfast. Using various combinations I can satisfy all 4 of my children and myself in under 10 minutes; plus keep that overall good for you feeling that oatmeal brings.
4. Tomato Basil English Muffin – Pre-heat over at 375. Open English muffin and add a slice of tomato, some shredded mozzarella and a dash of fresh basil. Cook for 6-10 minutes until cheese is full melted and enjoy!
5. Banana Smoothie – Add 2 Whole Bananas, 3 cups of ice and 1 cup of milk to a blender and mix until smooth. Best thing about smoothies is the easy cleanup.
6. Bagel with Cream Cheese and Tomato – For a creamy, tangy, delightful change of pace.
4. Egg Sandwich – My boys especially dig the microwaved egg sandwich trick. Basically you just whip with the egg as if you were planning to toss in a skillet. Add a little dash of milk, salt and pepper and cook in the micro for 1 minute. Smash in between two pieces of whole-grain bread {optional: mayo} and devour.
